Hydraulic Wing Plow For Large Wheel Loaders And Tractors
Combining Snow Plowing with Snow Pushing
The KAGE SnowDozer Wing combines angle plowing with snow pushing, stacking and back dragging into do-it-all hydraulic-powered snow plow. The simple advantages of these functions are brought together with a two-button control switch that allows you to independently control the hydraulic wings on either side of the moldboard.
Historically, wing plows have struggled with everything from a complicated leveling process which leads to uneven wear on the wings to limited control functions to unreliable hydraulic systems and snow leakage between the blade and the wings at the hinge. With the SnowDozer Wing plow, KAGE has addressed all of these issues.
Floating & Oscillating Skids
The SnowDozer Wing’s unique floating and oscillating skids shorten the learning curve for new operators and increase the lifespan of the wings while maximizing performance. No longer do you have to set your plow down perfectly level – heel-to-toe – to keeps the wings the proper position (although it’s still recommended).
With 6.625″ of vertical travel at the heel and 7.5″ of vertical travel at the toe of the skid, even if the plow is tilted slightly forward or slightly backward, the skid can oscillate and float until it is level with the plowing surface. The prevents uneven wear on the skids and prevent excessive pressure on the substrate.
Should you need to push snow up and over a standard 6″ tall curb, there’s more than enough float to allow the cutting edge to stay in contact with the road or parking lot while the wings float over the curb, giving you than clean curb-to-curb scrape!
Snow Catch Flap
In order to allow for such significant float in the skids, the SnowDozer Wing must give it a space (or void) above the cutting edge for it to travel into. To ensure that does not result in any snow leakage, KAGE utilizes a small, flexible rubber snow catch that accommodates both the floating skid and pivoting wing. Rest assured, although flexible, this snow catch is made of, and supported by, durable materials that won’t be just “flapping” in the breeze!
Compression Spring Trip Edge
The value of trip edges have been established for decades. Not only does the SnowDozer Wing implement a 90-degree trip edge to the center blade of the plow, but it also includes 55 degrees of trip on the cutting edge of the wing adding that extra level of protection for the plow, machine, operator and infrastructure. It’s a win-win…win…win!
Like the trip edge on the blade, the wing trip edge utilizes long-lasting compression springs to ensure the cutting edge returns to its original position after encountering an obstacle.
Tight/Floating Hinges
Through extensive testing, KAGE developing a wing hinge that not only allows the wings to pivot smoothly on the blade, but also closes that pesky gap between the wing and the blade that causes “snail trails” of leaked snow. The SnowDozer Wing hinges were designed to give plenty of space for pivoting. At the same time, when your wheel loader or tractor is actually pushing or back dragging the snow, that pressure of the snow and friction with the substrate slides the wings tightly against the blade to eliminate snow leakage. Bye By Snail Trail!
Curb Clearance
We’ve already discussed how this wing plow interacts with curbs through the trip edge and floating skids, but how about running curbs?
The SnowDozer Wing is well prepared for that as well. Not only is each wing skid equipped with multiple guards to increase the lifespan of the skid, but its reinforcements are also strategically placed at height to ensure they do not interfere with curbs.
Double Acting Cylinders
Keep It Simple. That is something at the heart of every product KAGE makes. That includes the hydraulics. With that in mind, the SnowDozer Wing utilizes double acting hydraulic cylinders at wing hinges as they are both easy to obtain and easy to repair in the event something happens to them.
Infinitely Adjustable Wing Angling
If you’ve used other wing plows, you may have found that there are pre-set angles at which the wings can be set – or you can only move one wing at a time. This can be frustrating for the skilled operator who wants to do precision work on the fly.
With the SnowDozer Wing, both wing angles can be adjusted simultaneously in the same or in different directions. The choice is yours! And – both wings offer a full 180-degree pivot range with no pre-set stopping points, mean you can adjust them to any angle you wish between 90 degrees forward and 90 degrees backward.
3-Button Control
You’ve got enough on your mind when your plowing that you don’t need to worry about one more complicated set of controls. KAGE kept that in mind when it chose its 3-button control system for the wings. It doesn’t get any simpler than that!
Crossover Relief
With the safety measure of the floating skids and trip edges in place you might think everything is covered when it comes to contact with obstacles. But KAGE has taken it yet another step to ensure the safest plowing experience. You may be familiar with the fact that KAGE includes hydraulic crossover relief for all of its plow moldboards. The same is true here… and it added a 1,700 PSI crossover relief valve to each of the wings. Yet another way to prevent maintenance downtime at 2 a.m.!
Protected Hydraulic Hoses
With all of the hydraulics that go into a system like this, KAGE understands that increases the risk that a hose can become damaged, and repairs may need to be made. To reduce the risk and hassle associated with that, special effort was placed on ensuring hoses and couplers were places in easy to access areas in an orderly fashion and were protected against the elements, including snags, pinches & cuts. With that in mind, most of the hydraulics are protected in an enclosed moldboard. Should repair or replacement of any of these parts be needs, all areas are accessible through access panels.
Modular Moldboard(s)
The snow blade is the backbone of the SnowDozer System. With that in mind, we build each moldboard as if it has to go into battle.
The modular design of the SnowDozer moldboard allows you to customize just the right size plow for the job – without the wait of an entirely custom plow!
High-strength, low alloy grade 50 steel is the standard for the moldboard skin showing that we care about the materials we use. Not only does that increase tensile strength over mild steel but helps reduce the effects of corrosion.
Baked on powder coat and primer at 400+ degrees safeguards all of the steel components and keeps the blade looking great for years. The standard blue and black two-tone finish that is so unique to KAGE is a long lasting, quality product by KAGE Innovation®.
Trip Edge
The SnowDozer blade has split trip edges which safeguard from damage when encountering hidden obstacles. Trip edges trip back to clear obstacles such as curbs, and manhole covers. Due to the length of the SnowDozer moldboard, the trip edges are split – meaning one section of the cutting edge can trip independently from another. This helps prevent the cutting edge from twisting and damaging both the cutting edge and the moldboard.
The trip edges are a crucial feature for efficient plowing. You can’t tip-toe around things that you cannot see, that takes too much time. Let the trip edge be your ‘whiskers’ letting you know what is out there!
KAGE’s sectional cutting edge – the AdvantEdge system is compatible with the split trip edge. That doesn’t mean each individual section of the AdvantEdge trips. Rather half the length of the full cutting trips with all approprate AdvantEdge sections attached – just as if it had a basic steel cutting edge to trip.
The trip edge action is powered by compression spring packs. The springs keep the edge from false tripping while pushing, meaning you can scrape and push without tripping unnecessarily. They else return the cutting edge to its original attack angle once the pressure against the obstacle has released.
Hydraulic System
The hydraulic system for the snow blade powers the plow left and right for up to 34-degree angle plowing using two 3” bore x 1.5” rod hydraulic cylinders.
We, too, absolutely dread that ‘midnight maintenance’ so we had that in mind when we put this hydraulic system together. This resulted in standard preventative stuff like abrasion resistant cloth hose covering on all hoses, and a 2500 psi crossover relief valve standard.
The electric diverter valve is standard equipment with the system, which enables machines with only one auxiliary function to operate the hydro lock pins to lock the SnowKAGE on as well as the angle function of the plow. Just the flick of a switch is all you need to switch power from the angle cylinders to the lock pins.
You won’t have to think twice about the durability of the Deutsch® plugs, heavy duty 5/8” O.D. ‘trailer cable’, strain relief cord grip, or lighted solenoids that all make up this expert setup.
The standard valve operates on 24VDC, a 12VDC option is available.
Angle Cylinders
Heavy duty 3″ Bore x 1.5″ Cylinders power the plow left and right 34 degrees.
Heavy duty knuckles keep the cylinders from binding as the plow oscillates.
Wire Harness
The provided wire harness runs up into the cab, and has a Deutsch plug midstream to quickly disconnect the plow from the machine.
Alternatively, if you are running Cat brand machines, the 8-pin wire harness will plug directly into the auxiliary power supply and uses the OEM in cab auxiliary switch.
Floating Quick Attach
The quick attach that couples the carrier (loader machine) to the plow has float built right into the ears. The lower pivot points rotate on 2 x 2″ diameter 1018 cold rolled pins, while the upper slots allow the plow to float up and down riding perfectly over humps and dropping into dips.
This floating system allows the operator to concentrate on driving, and not so much on the tilt or level that the plow is sitting at. Don’t worry, whenever you want positive down pressure, simply tip the attachment forward until the quick attach meets the end of the slots, and pushes into the plow frame. (see the options tab for a list of available quick attaches)
3-Point Hitch Attachment
The 3-pt hitch attachment allows the SnowDozer to quickly hook up to front mounted 3-pt hitches on 300+ horsepower tractors. The KAGE Under-Hitch is a great option for a compatible front 3-point hitch on tractors.
Plow Oscillation
The SnowDozer plow oscillates side to side up to 6 degrees in each direction to keep the cutting edges on the plowing surface at all times. The oscillation happens directly on the moldboard itself, so as the plow is hydraulically angled, the oscillation still operates as usual.
The bottom line is that no matter the plow angle, the oscillation will still perform as it should.
Another notable feature that is unique to the SnowDozer is our new oscillate control system, or OCS. This system uses two factory-pressurized (10 PSI) hydraulic rams to level the plow when it is elevated – for example during transport.
Throw Pitch
The 48” tall moldboard can be manually trimmed to adjust the snow throwing pitch, and attack angle of the cutting edge.
Highway Punch Cutting Edges
No matter which material or style of cutting edge you choose, the hole spacing is referred to as a “Standard Highway Punch”, so replacements are available most anywhere it snows; no need to stock custom edges or hardware for replacements! We really strive to make it easy for you, and if it’s easier for you to source cutting edges locally, do that. Otherwise you can purchase them directly from the factory, or one of our authorized dealers!
AdvantEdge Contouring Cutting Edge
Install the AdvantEdge Cutting Edge System onto your SnowDozer Wing center blade for the cleanest scrape.
This live cutting edge will contour to wheel depressions and crowns as well as accommodate protruding manhole covers to ensure maximum scrape with minimum damage. It also reduces road noise from scraping and prevents uneven wear to the cutting edge as each 18” or 24” section floats and oscillates for constant contact and even pressure through its spring-loaded design.
Wheel Loader Attachments
Quick Attaches
The wheel loader hitch can accommodate most quick attaches found on wheel loaders and tractor loader backhoes.
The pivot frame of the plow remains the same, and the quick attach, particular to your make / model of machine merely pins on with four, 2-inch pins.
Look closely and you will see that the blade will float up and down for uneven terrain. Down pressure? Sure, just ‘dump’ the quick attach with the curl function and it will bottom out, creating down pressure for back dragging or scraping ice!
3 Point Hitch
The 3-point hitch provides a compact attachment, and full range of motion while keeping the plow as close to the machine as possible. Universal to any CAT II 3-point hitch, it can be used in combination with one of our Kage Under-Hitch Tractor Undercarriages, or any other brand.
Sizes/Width
The SnowDozer Wing plow can accommodate any width from 12 feet to 28 feet. This is accomplished through the use of a center blade and either 4- or 5-foot wings on both ends of the blade. The smallest center blade length is 12 feet. Add 4-foot wings on each side and you’ve got a 12-20′ wing plow – the smallest option. Since the wings are infinitely adjustable, you can achieve any width in between the 12-foot minimum and 20-foot maximum simply buy adjusting the desired angles of each wing.
The center blade can also be increased in size easily through the modular moldboard system of the SnowDozer, which allows 2- or 3-foot sections to be added to each side until you’ve reached your desired size – up to an 18-foot center. This means center blades are available in 12, 14, 16, & 18 feet.
With 4-foot wings on each side those four center blade sizes convert to 12-20′, 14-22′, 16-24′ and 18-26′ wing plows. With 5 foot wings on each end, they turn into 12-22′, 14-24′, 16-26′ & 18-28′ wing plows.
Screw-Type Couplers
Cat screw-type couplers are optional to replace the standard 1/2″ Body Flat Faced ISO 16028 couplers.
12VDC Coils
Optionally choose the 12VDC coils instead of the standard 24VDC coils, if your machine has a 12VDC system.
Carbide Edge Extenders
Optional Carbide Edge Extenders can be bolted on to the center and ends of the trip edge, increasing the longevity of the high carbon steel cutting edges.
AdvantEdge Sectional Cutting Edge
Install the AdvantEdge Cutting Edge System onto your SnowDozer Wing center blade for the cleanest scrape. This sectional contouring cutting edge is available with either carbide or Hardox steel sections.
Under-Hitch Front 3-Point Hitch Tractor Undercarriage
The KAGE Under-Hitch is a universal tractor undercarriage system that offers a front 3-point hitch option. This allows for quick and easy installation of your SnowDozer Wing plow onto the front of large ag tractors.
