Why did KAGE start using the 8-pin wiring harness?
To make it easier for the operators running new equipment KAGE switched their wiring harness to the 8-pin style plug. The 6-pin style wire harness has been discontinued.
Companies such as Caterpillar have started to add an external 8-pin plug to the outside of their machine to control auxiliaries. Therefore, operators that run new machines, such as a CAT wheel loader, can plug the plow side of their KAGE wiring harness directly into the machine. They no longer need the machine side of the harness, unless they plan on using the same plow setup on a different machine without the external 8-pin hookup. This is one of the ways KAGE makes it easy for its operators, helping them spend less time hooking up their plows and more time removing snow!

What is the difference between the 6-pin and 8-pin plug?
The 6-Pin Plug Identification
You can identify the 6-pin plug by counting how many connection points are on the end of the plug. To identify which one you have, twist off the the plugs and count the connection points. Another difference to take note is that KAGE used four different pins on the 6-pin style.
The 8-Pin Plug Identification
You can identify the 8-pin plug by counting how many connection points are on the end of the plug. To identify which one you have, twist off the the plugs and count the connection points. Another difference to take note is that KAGE used two different pins on the 8-pin style.
Can I use the 6-pin and the 8-pin together?
You cannot plug a 6-pin wiring harness, whether it is the plow or machine side, directly to an 8-pin plug. However, KAGE makes an adaptor so that you can connect the two harnesses. The adaptor comes in handy when you are only looking to replace one part of your wiring harness or, you use the same plow on different machines.
How do I know which adaptor I need?
In order to identify which adaptor you need, or if you need one, you should first know if you have the 6 or 8-pin style wiring harness. If you have the 8-pin harness, then you will not need an adaptor and you can order the appropriate part of the harness that you need. However, if you have the 6-pin style, you will need to order an adaptor, unless you plan to buy a whole new harness. Keep in mind that if you are switching between machines that have a different setup for their harness, you may consider buying an adaptor even though you are buying a whole new harness.
