If you’ve ever spent time in commercial snow removal, you’ve undoubtedly seen, used or heard of a snow pusher. It’s also likely you’ve heard the term “snow box”.
Have you ever wondered what the difference is between the two? If so, the answer to that question is nothing… mostly. A snow pusher (the plow form – not the shovel type) is designed to allow you to move large amounts of snow with heavy equipment using a containment system on your plow. Generally, this means the plow has side panels or sidewalls that extend out in front of the moldboard.
The look and function of this type of plow design has caused it to earn several different names. Snow pusher and snow box are just a couple of them. Some other names for a snow box plow include containment plow, box style plow, push box, pusher box or, if you’re talking about the best option, a… wait for it… KAGE Plow!
Snow Box Designs
As you may have noticed, box plows come in a variety designs and styles. Most snow pushers are designed as a solid unit with the side panels welded to the moldboard. These kinds of containment plows generally are equipped with a rubber cutting edge, due to the fact that the skid shoe fixed under the side panels prevents the plow from being able to “trip” over obstacles such as curbs, manhole covers or speed bumps.
The KAGE system takes the snow pusher concept to a new level as it allows you to remove the containment box as needed, quickly and efficiently. This allows you to use simply the snow blade for precision work and then re-connect the sidewall system — also called a snow box, or Snow Kage, to push the snow away and stack it where desired.
