If you’ve ever spent time in commercial snow removal, you’ve undoubtedly seen, used or heard of a snow pusher. It’s also likely you’ve heard the term “snow box”.

Have you ever wondered what the difference is between the two? If so, the answer to that question is nothing… mostly. A snow pusher (the plow form – not the shovel type) is designed to allow you to move large amounts of snow with heavy equipment using a containment system on your plow. Generally, this means the plow has side panels or sidewalls that extend out in front of the moldboard.

The look and function of this type of plow design has caused it to earn several different names. Snow pusher and snow box are just a couple of them. Some other names for a snow box plow include containment plow, box style plow, push box, pusher box or, if you’re talking about the best option, a… wait for it… KAGE Plow!

Snow Box Designs

As you may have noticed, box plows come in a variety designs and styles. Most snow pushers are designed as a solid unit with the side panels welded to the moldboard. These kinds of containment plows generally are equipped with a rubber cutting edge, due to the fact that the skid shoe fixed under the side panels prevents the plow from being able to “trip” over obstacles such as curbs, manhole covers or speed bumps.

The KAGE system takes the snow pusher concept to a new level as it allows you to remove the containment box as needed, quickly and efficiently. This allows you to use simply the snow blade for precision work and then re-connect the sidewall system — also called a snow box, or Snow Kage, to push the snow away and stack it where desired.

The ability for the snow blade to work independently and in conjunction with the Snow Kage, adds to the benefit of the KAGE plow – as well as a trip edge. This is not something most pusher boxes achieve.

Snow Pusher Cutting Edges

If you already have a traditional snow box with fixed side panels and a rubber cutting edge. KAGE does offer the next best thing to a KAGE 2-in-1 system, that you can install right on your existing pusher to help it scrape better and reduce the risk of damaging the plowing surface – The AdvantEdge sectional cutting edge.

The AdvantEdge is a spring-loaded live cutting edge system with a universal mount. That means this cutting edge, can be mounted on any existing plow. It features the standard highway punch found on nearly all plows for relatively quick and easy cutting edge replacement.

The 18-inch and 24-inch sections allow you to get just the right length of cutting edge to fit your plow. And the spring-loaded design keeps constant pressure on the plowing surface, allowing it to accommodate road crowns, dips, peaks and even manhole covers by only lifting or dropping part of the cutting edge as needed instead of an entire 8-20 foot blade.

The AdvantEdge comes standard with Hardox Steel cutting edge segments, and also has a carbide cutting edge option of so desired.

Containment Plow Carriers

Most box plows are designed for use with skid steers, tractors or front end loaders. The AdvantEdge works will all of those – as well as municipal plows installed on dump trucks – and provides each with the ability for cleaner scraping.

Whether you are a Bobcat, Kubota or John Deere plow operator clearing parking lots, driveways or sidewalks you can benefit from a containment plow system. And if you choose to use a KAGE box plow, know that you won’t have to worry about purchasing both a plow and pusher because this 2-pin-1 system does it all!

KAGE Box Style Plow Options

KAGE Innovation offers convertible snow boxes in three different sizes designed to match your carrier (skid steer, tractor, wheel loader, telehandler, etc.) both by weight and connection system.

SnowFire

The SnowFire plow and box system is the smallest – designed for skid steers, compact loaders, telehandlers and tractors. It is available in 5 different sizes ranging from 6-12 feet and uses a cam lock system to connect the box to the blade.

SnowStorm

The SnowStorm plow and pusher is for mid-size carriers, including tractors, wheel loaders, telehandlers and backhoes. It is available in 3 different sizes, ranging from 10–14-foot widths and uses hydraulic clamps to secure the box to the blade.

SnowDozer

The SnowDozer containment plow and blade is the big dog in the KAGE system family, designed for large wheel loaders ranging from 30,000 to 50,000 pounds. This beast of a plow uses a modular design of 2- or 3-foot sections to create plow sizes ranging from 12-20 feet wide and uses hydraulic locking pins to keep the Snow Kage in place on the blade.
