Clear HOA and Townhome Snow with a Skid Steer

Clearing townhome and HOA complexes can require operators to clear hundreds of driveways in a night.  This task becomes more difficult when residents want their driveways clean down to asphalt while being as quiet as possible.  Minimizing passes, reducing operator fatigue, and proper equipment all help your operation to maximize productivity for the most efficient snow removal process. Read on to learn more about ways to Efficiently Clear Townhome Driveways with a skid steer plow like the Kage SnowFire System.

Why use the 3-1 approach?

When you get in your Skid Steer with a Plow for a long night of back dragging, it is imperative to remember that minimizing passes means quicker clearing. This means operators can get more done safely, reducing liability.  When back dragging with your Skid Steer and Blade, start in the center to pull snow to the street.  Then use your 2 remaining passes to back drag each side of the driveway remaining within your snow stake markers.  This allows you to reduce snow dribble, especially when utilizing the KAGE Back Drag Kit and minimizes damage to lawns that would need to be cleaned up in the spring.

Raise your boom

It may seem counter-intuitive, but when clearing townhome driveways, back-dragging creates piles at the end of driveways that can slow your skid steer down.  Any slow down especially when clearing hundreds of driveways in a night decreases productivity and increases operator fatigue. To correct this issue, keep your boom slightly raised and back drag with the plow tilted forward slightly.  This will give you greater ground clearance, while still being able to apply down pressure to clear ground to the substrate.

What is the best way to pile snow?

It is imperative to think about where you are piling snow, and how much snow you can pile.  Skid Steers and Tractors with Snow Pushers pile snow much higher and deeper than trucks.  Skid Steers are much more agile and can pile snow farther ahead in yards if needed to increase safety for residents backing out.  Tractors can push more snow per push, so many contractors are utilizing tractors to clear the feeding streets.  This allows your skid steer crew to back drag and move. Then your tractor can push and pile the feeder streets. This creates a much faster operation that can move from one customer site to another quickly.
