While much of its terminology follows industry standards, some regions and companies have their own terms in regards to the snow, lawn and dirt maintenance industry. Plus, KAGE’s innovative patented and proprietary products like 2-in-1 snow plow systems and motorized lawn mower attachments often bring new terminology to the industry. This glossary includes prominent terminology, product names, features, and jargon.
A–C
AdvantEDGE: Patented modular/sectional replaceable snow plow cutting edge with segments (steel, carbide, poly, or rubber) that contour to uneven surfaces for cleaner first-pass scraping; universal mount compatible with municipal trucks, skid steers, tractors, etc. Industry synonyms: Sectional cutting edge, segmented cutting edge, floating cutting edge, contouring cutting edge, flex cutting edge, active cutting edge; also called “highway punch” or “DOT punch” style or wear edge in some contexts.
Angle Plowing: Snow removal technique where plow blade is angled to one side. Industry synonyms: windrowing, side-throwing or diagonal plowing.
Attachment: Specialized tool that connects to a machine such as a snow plow, land plane, grass catcher or sprayer.
Attack Angle: The angle at which the moldboard meets the cutting edge (65° for all KAGE snow plows & pushers) for optimal scraping of snow and ice. Industry synonyms: Cutting angle or blade angle
Back Drag (or Back Dragging / Back Drag Kit): Precision reverse dragging with the blade (supported in 2-in-1 systems and optional kits); allows close work near buildings/curbs. Industry synonyms: Backdragging or back blade technique; (also “reverse plowing” or “backblading”).
BLAST Snow Pusher: Fixed-side snow pusher variant (hydraulic-free) with integrated trip edge, floating skids, and oscillation for compact to mid-size machines. Industry synonyms: SnowFire BLAST, SnowStorm BLAST, Fixed blade snow pusher, rigid box pusher, box plow or straight pusher (vs. detachable/combo styles).
Buddy Strap: Ergonomic carrying strap/sling with assist handle for snow shovels. Industry synonyms: Shovel sling, ergonomic shovel strap, shovel assist handle or shoulder carry aid.
Carrier: Specialized vehicle designed for use with attachments, such as tractors, wheel loaders, skid steers/loaders, etc. Industry synonyms: crawler carriers, tool carriers, construction equipment, heavy machinery,
Compact Track Loader (CTL): Low ground pressure construction machine similar to a skid steer but utilizing rubber tracks instead of wheels. Industry synonyms: track loader, track skid steer, compact crawler loader, multi-terrain loader or rubber track loader.
Compact Tractor: Small farm tractor generally offering between 20 and 60 horsepower. Industry synonyms: compact utility tractor (CUT), small tractor, mini tractor
Compact Wheel Loader (CWL): Articulated heavy machine for work in confined spaces, generally weighing between 5K and 15K pounds. Industry synonyms: small articulated loader (SAL), compact loader, front loader, articulated loaders or tool carrier.
Containment Box: Detachable side panels/box (hydraulic clamp-on, hydraulic pin or camlock) that turns the plow blade into a high-volume pusher for stacking. Industry synonyms: Snow Kage, Box (in box plow), containment wings/end plates, or snow containment system. Often just called the “box” in pusher setups.
Coupler: This is a Trick Question! A coupler can either refer to an attachment system on the boom of a machine – or a hydraulic fitting where hydraulic hoses connect to machines. Industry Synonyms for the attachment system: quick coupler, quick hitch, quick attach system, lug connector, attachment lug, mounting bracket, fastening lug, connecting lug, fastener, adapter, link, yoke, or joint. Industry synonyms for the hydraulic fitting: coupling, quick connect, quick disconnect (QDC), quick release coupling or hydraulic coupling.
Cutting Edge: (Two-part answer) The part of a snow plow or pusher that comes in contact with the substrate, intended for scraping snow. Also a steel blade on a land plane designed to shave, cut and redistribute soil. Industry synonyms in snow removal: plow blade, scraper blade, live edge, floating edge, poly blade, polyurethane edge or carbide edge. Industry synonyms in land leveling: grader blade, cutter bar, scraper blade, blade, hardened edge or leveling blade.
D–K
Direct Hitch: Heavy duty attachment system mounted directly to a tractor subframe – particularly a KAGE Under-Hitch system – providing maximum stability.

Float: Ground-following mechanism that keeps constant and even down pressure and contact on uneven surfaces. This can be found anywhere from the machine loader arms to the quick attach, pivot frame, moldboard, skids/shoes and cutting edge. Industry synonyms: Float function, floating blade/moldboard, or self-adjusting shoes/skids, contour following.
GreatER Bar: Land plane/scarifier attachment with ripper teeth for leveling dirt, gravel, clay, sand, etc. Industry synonyms: Land plane, land leveler, box grader/scraper, gravel grader, or ground scarifier (common landscaping attachment term).
Kage Klawz (Skid Steer Snow Tires): Tire kit with 4 Michelin XM+S4 retreads on steel rims for enhanced traction in snow. Industry synonyms: Skid steer winter/snow tires, traction tire kit, or skid loader snow tires.
KS3P (KAGE System 3-Point): A SnowFire plow and box system with a 3-point hitch pivot frame. Industry synonym: KAGE 3 Point Snow Plow and Pusher System

Land Plane: Carrier attachment designed for grading, leveling and finishing dirt or gravel surfaces. Industry synonyms: land plane grader, grader scraper, landscape plane, land leveler, grader bar or soil leveler.
LBK (Loader Blade Kage): A SnowFire plow and box system with a universal skid steer quick attach WITH float in the pivot frame. Industry synonym: KAGE Compact Wheel Loader Snow Plow and Pusher System
Liquid Brine Sprayer (LiquidRage Sprayer): Skid steer/tractor-mounted tank sprayer for applying liquid salt brine (anti-icing/pre-treating surfaces). Industry synonyms: Brine sprayer, liquid deicer applicator, anti-icing sprayer, or direct liquid application (DLA) system.
Live Edge Plow: Snow plow with a contouring cutting edge. Industry synonyms: Sectional edge snow plow, floating edge snow plow or flex edge snow plow
Loader Arm: Component on the front of heavy machinery such as skid steers, wheel loaders and tractors designed to lift and manipulate materials. Industry synonym: loader boom
Loader Quick Attach: An ear-style connection system that allows for fast and easy connecting/disconnecting of machine attachments. (See coupler.)
Moldboard: The curved main blade surface (heavy-gauge cold-rolled steel, various heights: 32″, 36″, 48″) that rolls and channels snow; reinforced with tri-form box style support. Industry synonyms: Plow blade or face of the plow.
Multi-Terrain Loader (MTL): Specific kind of CTL offered by brands like Caterpillar designed specifically for sensative surfaces.
Oscillation (Moldboard Oscillation): Side-to-side pivot allowing the blade to maintain contact on slopes/uneven ground. Industry synonym: Pivot float

Poly Rotor Paddles (Poly Snowblower Paddles): Polyurethane replacement paddles for single-stage snowblowers. Industry synonym: Polyurethane snowblower paddles/blades.
SBK (Skidsteer Blade KAGE): A SnowFire plow and box system with a universal skid steer quick attach and no float in the pivot frame. Industry synonym: KAGE Skid Steer Snow Plow and Pusher System
ShadowBlade: Rear-mounted reversible tractor wing plow (CAT II 3-point hitch) that folds, counters crab walk, and includes optional wing extension. Industry synonyms: Rear wing plow, back blade plow, or pull-type wing plow.
Skid Steer: Compact four-wheeled machine know for zero-radius steering designed for construction and landscaping work. (Also available with tracks.) Industry synonyms: skid steer loader (SSL), skid loader, Bobcat or compact loader. (See Compact Track Loader for tracked versions.)
SnowDozer: Large modular 2-in-1 system or self-leveling hydraulic wing plow for big wheel loaders/tractors. Industry synonyms: Large box plow, wing plow, or heavy-duty containment pusher.
SnowFire: Patented flagship 32-inch tall 2-in-1 detachable blade + box system for 4k to 15k pound machines (skid steer/compact tractor/loader versions); switches between pusher and angle plow modes, with trip edge, oscillation, and high stacking. (The SnowFire Series also includes snow pusher and wing plow variations.) SnowStorm: KAGE brand Mid-size 2-in-1 system (10–14 ft) for wheel loaders/tractors with hydraulic box and 36° angling. (The SnowStorm Series also includes snow pusher and wing plow variations.) Industry synonyms: Medium box plow or mid-duty containment pusher.
Sulky: Lawn mower attachment that provides area for operator to ride behind the machine usually equipped with one or two wheels. Industry synonyms: Velke (or Velky), riding attachment, operator platform, Wheel Kaddy (or wheel caddy), mower dolly, stand-on platform.

TBK (Tractor Blade Kage): A SnowFire plow and box system with a direct hitch pivot frame. Industry synonym: KAGE Compact Tractor Snow Plow and Pusher System
Telehandler: High stability rough terrain lifting machine with a telescopic boom designed to function as a hybrid between and crane and a forklift. Industry synonyms: telescopic handler, telescopic forklift, zoom boom, reach forklift, lug loader or lull.
Three-point hitch: triangular hydraulic linkage system used to attach, lift and control implements. Industry synonyms: 3-point hitch, three-point linkage or hydraulic linkage.
Tractor Loader Backhoe (TLB): Construction vehicle with a tractor base, front loader arms and a rear-mounted digging arm: Industry synonyms: backhoe loader, loader excavator or tractor excavator.
Trip Edge: Spring-loaded bottom blade section (up to 8–9″ tall) that trips over curbs/obstacles and resets; featured on all KAGE pushers/plows. Industry synonyms: Trip edge or segmented trip-edge design, breakaway edge or cushion trip in many glossaries.
Utility Work Machine (UWM): All-in-one vehicle combining the features of a compact tractor, pickup truck, skid steer and utility vehicle (UTV). Industry synonyms: Toolcat (Bobcat brand), multi-attachment UTV, compact tool carrier, hybrid work vehicle, or versatile handler.
WingLine: Bright green laser system projecting a line in front of side wings or wide rear implements to prevent damage. Industry synonyms: Wing plow laser guide, laser alignment system, snow plow laser, tractor laser or wing sight/guide.
Wing Plow: Plow with extendable/retractable or hinged wings for variable width and containment. OR a deployable plow blade that is mounted to the side of equipment such as dump trucks. Industry synonyms: Winged plow, fixed-wing plow, or multi-position wing attachment.
