What is a Land Plane?

A land plane with teeth or without, a box scraper, and a leveler are all pieces of equipment used for landscaping and construction and are typically designed to level and grade large areas of land. Land planes are commonly used to loosen, remove, and replace ground to make the surface more suitable for drainage, sports, landscape features, and turfgrass preparation.

A grading bar, or land plane, is typically the fastest and easiest way to cut high spots down and fill small depressions. The operator can simply lower the land plane to engage the cutting edges with the high spots, and the grading bar automatically relocates those to the next low spot in the travel path. This works very well for small peaks and valleys that are close in proximity to each other. Most land planes are made of a solid welded frame designed to attach to skid steers such as a Bobcat, CAT, Case, John Deere, or New Holland.

Levelers make it easy to dig up ridges to fill in depressions quickly and efficiently. There are two main types of levelers: ones with teeth and ones without.

Why Should I Use a Land Plane with Teeth?

Efficiently breaks up compacted soil:

A land plane with teeth attachment is designed to penetrate and break up compacted soil, making it easier to level and grade the surface. This is especially useful when preparing a surface for construction or landscaping, as it can save time and effort compared to using a manual tool like a rake or shovel.

Removes rocks and debris:

As the teeth on the land plane dig into the soil, they can also pick up rocks and other debris, which are then deposited in a pile behind the land plane. This faster and easier than removing these obstacles by hand or with a bucket and helps ensure a smooth and even surface for your projects, such as a landscape feature, a sports field, or a gravel driveway.

Creates drainage channels:

By adjusting the height of the teeth on the land plane, you can create shallow channels in the soil that allow water to flow away from the surface. This can be especially useful for preventing water damage and erosion and can help ensure the longevity of your construction or landscaping project. It can also help you increase drainage in the soil by breaking up larger sections of earth.

Versatile:

A land plane is a versatile piece of equipment that can be used for various tasks beyond leveling and grading, such as creating driveways, parking lots, access roads, and preparing the soil for planting. It can also be used for construction, landscaping, and as a way to aerate the ground.

Saves time and effort:

Using a land plane with teeth can decrease labor and improve quality compared to using manual tools or a loader bucket ensuring a more consistent and professional-looking finished product. When it comes to filling in smaller depressions and leveling small ridges, a grader bar is the way to go. However, If you are digging out a pond, a bucket would need to do the heavy lifting, and the leveler can do the detailed work.

KAGE GreatER Bar with Teeth

Unlike other land planes with teeth, the GreatER Bar does not require you to get out of the cab to activate your teeth or unhook hydraulics. The scarifier teeth latching system is fully mechanical, eliminating hydraulics and extra steps. All the operator has to do is press the foot bar on the front of the GreatER Bar into the ground to activate or deactivate the teeth within seconds from the comfort of the cab.

The teeth have adjustable depth so that you can customize how much terrain you want the ripper to loosen. It also has automatic floating teeth. This means that when the teeth are activated, you can drive forward to rip up the terrain with your teeth and feather it moving backwards without them tearing up the ground. The GreatER Bar is equipped with a double-edge cutting edge to provide great cutting quality in both directions.

The teeth are easily replaceable with a hammer and maybe a punch. Just knock out the roll pin and slide the new tooth into place! The double edge cutting edge is also replaceable with just a few bolts.

Built with high quality wear components, this land plane with teeth is designed to last even after years of use. Each frame piece is supported with corner gussets to give it structural integrity. The latching mechanism is made with Hardox steel to help eliminate wear components and give them a longer life.
